"Excellence of performance will transcend artificial barriers created by man."

My desire for a meaningful and fulfilling life has been immeasurably enriched through a life-long involvement in the visual arts. Various personal experiences, complex and simple, are manifested in a diverse and broad range in my work. Some works are rendered with fastidious attention to detail, others executed in bold vivid colors with controlled spontaneity. Each, however, adheres to the aesthetic demands of the medium.

Through the use of varied and experimental combinations of materials and media, I am developing my artistic skills, thereby opening the door to even more creativity and imagination which will insure artistic growth. This process is on going.

Elnora Wilson Solo Show
"Artistic Fabrications: Mixed Media Creations"

Church_Lady_(Wilson)

Dates:     Thursday, February 15th - March 28th, 2007
Reception:
Thursday, March 15th, 2007     12 Noon to 2 PM

Arts and Cultural Heritage Division
Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC)
6611 Kenilworth Avenue, Suite 200
Riverdale, Maryland
301-454-1450, TTY 301-454-1472

Vibrant, colorful, and full of texture describes the mixed-media creations of Artist Elnora Wilson. She is an uncompromising artist who paints with textiles as well as a variety of contemporary media of varying complexity. Imagination...inspired vision...these reflections are evoked by her ability to create unique works that seem to have perfect form and composition. Her art evokes our visual pleasure. It is colorful, whimsical, enchanting and quenches our thirst for originality.

“I enjoy creating in textiles because the use of a variety of fabrics of varying textures, lead the eye throughout the composition, while at the same time giving each piece a relief quality and a three-dimensional effect. The bold colors of the sometimes whimsical textile ---and painted images---not only appeal to sense of sight, but also provide great appeal to the sense of touch.”

“Whether creating in textiles or in paint, the colors are bright and bold and play off of each other to form an exciting dimensional quality; each piece of work creates its own mood and tells its own story. Each facial expression engages the viewer and leads them to wonder, '...what is she (are they) thinking?' ”

Tom Ayers
Artist of the Month
Bowie City Hall Art Gallery

Rise_and_Shine_(Ayers)

March 3rd - March 30th, 2007

Bowie City Hall
2614 Kenhill Drive
Bowie, MD 20715

Chemist, composer, poet, and photographer, Tom Ayers has been painting abstracted works in acrylics for over five years. Initially interested in sharing his enthusiasm for the Book of Proverbs, he began painting a series of Meditations in 2002. However, as middle-age, with its accompanying losses, reared its sometimes ugly head, he used painting to explore personal issues of artistic insecurity, grief, moving forward, and hope. Some particularly painful losses inspired his Passage series, a set of twelve paintings beginning with the loss of a dear friendship and ending with three visions of hope, dedication, and acceptance. You are invited to share the journey. Come and see.

Gina Reininger
Artist of the Month
Bowie Senior Center

Foxhill_Bridge_(Reininger)

February 2nd - March 1st, 2007
Reception:
Thursday, March 1st, 2007     7 - 8 PM

Bowie Senior Center
14900 Health Center Drive
Bowie, MD     20716
301 809-2300

Gina first started painting after her retirement. Her love of the outdoors, coupled with her enthusiasm for reproducing the colors she sees in nature has resulted in a zest for painting landscapes from this area and locations around the world. While she has done some paintings in oil and watercolor, she basically considers herself a pastelist and recently has experimented with painting pastel over gold leaf. The immediacy of pastel as well as the brilliant pigments available in this medium help her to interpret the landscapes and city scenes that excite her.

Gina is drawn to the interplay of light and shadows and tries to express her reaction to these elements in her paintings. While all seasons have their own special elements that are fascinating, it is the creation of paintings that expresses her interpretation of what she sees that excites her most.

Gina has exhibited extensively throughout the area and has works in corporate headquarters in Chicago, Illinois as well as Panama and Raritan in Central America.
