Nancy Winchester has been "playing" with art much of her life. As a student she doodled a lot and drew pictures of other classmates. As there were no art programs offered in her school, she picked up some knowledge of drawing and painting from books and an occasional private instructor. Her mother wanted her to study art in college; she refused. In the ensuing years, Nancy raised three children and pursued a career in nursing, taking an occasional art class. More recently, Ms. Winchester has studied for several years under the tutelage of Mr. James Masters. She is a member of the Prince George's Artists Association, the Maryland Society of Portrait Painters, and the Strathmore Hall Artists' Guild. She has shown with each of these groups. Nancy's chosen mediums are oils and pastels. She enjoys painting landscapes but prefers portrait painting. Catching a subject's likeness, coloring, and the sparkle in their eye is her constant challenge and delight. |
