Elnora Wilson, a native of South Carolina, is the youngest of seven children and has been a Prince George's County Maryland resident since the age of 10. At Bowie State University, Elnora completed her undergraduate program with a major in art education and additional course work at the Corcoran School of Art. She later received her Masters of Education in School Administration and Supervision, also at Bowie State University and later certifications in English Language Arts and Pupil Personnel from Trinity College in Washington D.C. For the past thirty years, Elnora has touched the lives of thousands of children and adults in the Prince George's County Public School System as an Art Teacher, English Teacher and School Administrator at the elementary, middle, high school and college levels. As an art teacher, for seven years, she instructed students in two and three dimensional art and coordinated shows and exhibitions of students' work. At Prince George's Community College, Elnora taught water color painting in the Adult Continuing Education Program. For several years, as Elnora pursued other areas of interests in education, her heart, passion and true spirit remained in the arts. She designed a line of clothing and jewelry, letting clothing designs become her artistic pallet. Her vibrant colors, bold designs and images made the wearer the immediate focus of attention. In her designs, Elnora believed that each time a piece was viewed, there should be something different to see. "Art should be full of surprises and not viewed one-dimensionally." As with her clothing, "… art should make you feel good, it should surround you and you should be surrounded by it." Thus, Elnora's mission as an artist and a designer is to help each person experience art, become one with it, and to want it --whether it is to wear it or to view it, all can possess it. "I enjoy creating in textiles because the use of a variety of fabrics of varying textures, lead the eye throughout the composition, while at the same time giving each piece a relief quality and a three-dimensional effect. The bold colors of the sometimes whimsical textile --and painted images--not only appeal to sense of sight, but also provide great appeal to the sense of touch." |
