Mixed media doll artist, Sherry Ways has always been artistic and has a knack for creating and combining color. As early as she can remember, she was drawing, writing, sketching pictures and creating colorful pieces. Her artistic creativity left her for 25 years until she decided to take an art workshop with her mentor and doll artist extraordinaire, Francine Haskins, in Washington, DC about 4 years ago. From this, she realized through feedback from others, that she had a talent for making cloth dolls.

Because Sherry did not take her talent seriously, she gave away most of her dolls as gifts to friends and loved ones. Ms. Ways never realized it as a form of art that she could pursue as a hobby or that collectors would want to take seriously. After years of encouragement from family and friends, Sherry decided to publicly release her talent and share her love for making dolls to the general public. Thus, Sankofa Doll Artistry was born!

Her dolls represent the many facets of women and African women in the Diaspora. Sherry's work is always evolving. She makes commissions upon request and dolls that move her in some way. Hopefully, they will move you too.

You may find more of her work on her website www.sankofastudio.com or you may read her blog at www.sankofadolljournal.blogspot.com .
