James Searl, scientist and naturalist. The abiding constant throughout his varied interests and pursuits is a lifelong curiosity about and intense love of nature. His curiosity led to scientific studies which took him ever deeper into the essence of nature-- entomology, biochemistry, X-ray diffraction, culminating in a Ph.D. in abstract mathematics. His love of nature has found expression in gardening and photography-- his orchids are extravagant bloomers and his native Maryland wildflowers thrive like the weeds some of them actually are. His nature photography has a depth of field that ranges from England and the Scottish Highlands to Asia and back to the local tri-state area. James Searl is an active member of the Prince George's Artists Association and has won awards in every show in which his photographs were exhibited. |
