Mike Lewandowski     Edmonston Expressionist.       Creating Art is an endeavor which designates its own path based on personal experiences, influences and sincere expressions of emotional attitudes which are dependent on past and present states of mind. A comprehensive appreciation of nature is as essential for creating art as any other influence that is possible to obtain. It is exhilarating to genuinely create unique explorations in art by pursuing motivations that are void of traditional procedures, conventional methods, current trends and limitations encountered by preconceived notions. A liberated approach to exploring the endless possibilities of the mind opens unlimited opportunities for creating unique environments. While in pursuit of creating as many different types of paintings and drawings imaginable, I pour every ounce of my heart and soul into everything I create. Put on this earth for the reason of creating art, my work are gifts of creation offered to those who wish to absorb them. Influences range from most every art movement including early Cave Painting, Renaissance Art, Neoclassical, Minimalist, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, and Early 20th Century German Expressionism. Particular masters include De Kooning, Pollock, Richter, Picasso, Munch, Da Vinci, Degas, and Rodin among many others. By very intently studying art history and seeing what past masters have accomplished I have learned to take techniques and applications to another level. My intention is not to copy what other artists have done but learn from them and to go beyond what they have accomplished. By creating as many different styles of expression imaginable and not getting too caught up in a single thought or attitude, my ultimate goal is to create a new genre of art that is unique, universal and personal. I use Acrylics, Oils, Pastels, Pencil, Ink, Resins, Watercolor, Graphite, and have used various surfaces such as Paper, Canvas, Foam Board, Oakwood Sheeting, Masonite, Plexiglass and Floor Linoleum. By changing my approach often and trying to keep ideas new and interesting the work or as I like to sometimes call it play, stays a refreshing challenge. Listening to music is very integrated into the thought process while creating because the sounds lift the emotional spirits. I prefer Classical music which supplies rich textures and imagination to the mind. Jazz music with its endless improvisational qualities helps influence stream of consciousness thinking. I studied Art at the University of Kansas from 1983-1987. Robert Wright the Great Abstract Painter and professor from KU was my original mentor. By offering me an attitude towards art he unquestionably has been the single most important and personal influence in my artistic endeavors. |
