David Gleason.      Majored in Fine Arts my first year in college, switched to architecture when I realized I had no idea what I was doing ... this was the Age of Abstract Expressionism ... didn't touch a paintbrush for the next 35 years, then started doing acrylics about 6 years ago. A few red ribbons, a few blue, but still a long ways to go. Five workshops with Foster Caddell have helped a lot. I like expressive brushwork, decisive contrasts, the tactile feel of paint going onto the surface; realistic, but with a "painterly" approach. Regardless of the fumbling and backtracking it takes to get there, regardless of fidelity to the source or how long it takes, the only thing that matters to me is what the finished painting ends up looking like. |
