Robert Ciesielski has had an interest in art since childhood when he watched his Dad draw and paint. He was also inspired by teachers in his early school years. However, he did not take his art seriously until much later. Bob and his wife, Mary, moved from overseas to Bowie as newlyweds in 1971, and Bob worked in spacecraft communications at the Goddard Space Flight Center. The family grew with the addition of two daughters and a son. Then with his wife's encouragement, Bob started taking art lessons through the Washington School of Art and, in 1986, he started taking lessons and workshops with the nationally-known painter and teacher, Jim Masters. He has also taken workshops with Fritz Briggs. He continues to self study and also takes workshops.

Now that Bob has retired after more than 33 years in spacecraft communications, he has been able to devote more time to his painting. He loves to travel and has made many trips to his wife's Irish homeland. He especially enjoys painting scenes of its beautiful landscapes and towns. Whatever the subject in Bob's paintings, he uses light and shadow and color contrast to catch the viewer's interest.

Bob is the current treasurer for both the Guild of Bowie Artists and the Prince George's Artists Association, and is also a member of the Patuxent Art League. With these organizations he has exhibited his paintings at the Montpelier Cultural Arts Center, the WSSC Art Gallery, Huntington Community Center, the Bowie Art Expo at Alien Pond, the Woodward Estates in Bowie, and Free State Mall. He has also displayed his work at the Laurel Lakes Art Gallery, the Mare E. Monti restaurant, the Pasta Plus restaurant in Laurel, and the RE/Max Innovations office in Crofton. His paintings are also in private collections. He has won numerous awards in various local juried art shows. He continues to paint, show and sell his work, and accepts commissions.
