Jean Carstens was born June 16th in Galena, Illinois. Six weeks later on a train to D.C., she moved to Arlington, VA. When war was declared in December, 1941, her parents moved to Greenbelt, then later to College Park where she took a Famous Artist correspondence course in Westport, CN. She didn't consider herself an artist because she never thought of herself as being able to be one. Then after her marriage and 4 children later, she took an art course at UMUC where she started taking so many courses that she almost had an Art degree which she is finishing now. She has panted in oils, watercolor, pastel, rendered line drawing, abstracts, and various other mediums. Art is so relaxing and you can create your own ideas on paper or canvas - whatever you want. I would recommend to anyone who likes to draw or paint to take just one course at college or university ... you never know what it will do for you or where it will take you. Jean was past Vice President of the Prince George's Artists Association. |
