Sharon J. Burton is a self-taught artist, art consultant and independent curator.
As a child growing up in Upstate New York, Sharon displayed considerable talent in the visual arts and was recognized at her school and by local organizations for her creations. Throughout her life, Sharon has continued to pursue her passion as a patron and eventually, as more involved when she launched her business, Authentic Art Consulting in 2005. Sharon is now in the process of reawakening her inner artist after 19 years. She is currently being mentored by mixed-media artist, Marilyn Banner.
Sharon has been exploring the use of a variety of mediums to express her interest in spirituality, gender issues and African American history and culture. Her most recent work has included digital photography, oil pastel, collage, and mixed media on paper and canvas. Her work has been recently exhibited in group shows in Washington, DC, Baltimore and New York City.
Sharon has attended classes in Art History and Studio Arts from the Smithsonian Institution (Washington, DC), The Torpedo Factory (Arlington, Virginia), Montpelier Arts Center (Laurel, Maryland), Maryland Institute College of Art (Baltimore, Maryland) and Harmony Hall Regional Arts Center (Fort Washington, Maryland). She has also served as an art curator, consultant, juror and intern to the former Ramee Art Gallery in Washington, DC, Creative Artisans Art Consultancy of Baltimore, Maryland, Overdue Recognition Art Gallery of Bowie, Maryland, Roxanne's Artiques and Gallery in Washington, DC and the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, DC.
Sharon is a member of various local and national art and professional organizations including the Capitol Hill Art League, Washington Project for the Arts and the Women's Caucus for Art, Greater Washington Metro and Philadelphia Chapters.
